On March 28, Academia Sinica’s Office of Public Affairs will host the “2012 Precision Instrument, Photoelectricity, and Information Technology Conference”. The conference is to facilitate technology transfer and licensing, and cooperation between industry and researchers. It will introduce the latest developments in research related to precisioninstruments, photoelectricity and information technology at Academia Sinica. Business and industry representatives, members of the media and the public are welcome to attend.
Twenty innovations will be presented including advances in research into optics, electronics, nanotechnology and mobile and internet applications. Over 50 representativesfrom business and industry are expected to take part in the event, which allows the business and industry sectors to explore licensing agreements and product innovations.
Dr. En-te Hwu from the Institute of Physics will present 5 patents, including an X-ray microscopy mechanism, an astigmatic detection system for optical profiler applicationand three actuator patterns. Dr. Jiann-T’suen Lin from the Institute of Chemistry will present organic dye-sensitized solar cells. Through this technology, sensitized organic dye can be transferred into energy storage for solar power, which may be widely applied to electronic devices in our daily life.
In the field of information technology, Dr. Pi-Cheng Hsiu from the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation will present a cloud-based energy-saving service system and method that can cut the power used by mobile devices up to 40%. Dr. Meng Chang Chen from the Institute of Information Science will share a mobile router system which provides seamless internet data transmission on a high-speed train and greatly improves the quality of internet transportation.
Technology licensing is one way that Academia Sinica supports the development of high-end technology. Through technology conferences, the most advanced science applications can be introduced to industry and the public.
